Mummy + Me 2020

Last year was pretty tough, no doubt about it, and with all the craziness of lockdowns last year, I’m so grateful I was able to hold these Mummy and Me mini sessions last year.

They were a tad late - due to lockdowns we weren’t actually able to run them until October - but we got there, and that’s all that matters!

Actually - what really matters is these mums who were brave enough to jump in front of my lens, and put themselves back in the photos with their kids β™₯

It’s not an easy thing to be photographed, it can often make us (including myself) feel pretty vulnerable. We’re worried about our weight gain, about our chins and our arms, about feeling awkward and doing strange things with our faces.

Can I tell you something though? These the least important things about you.

What is waayyyyy more important, is that you simply exist. You are the light of your children’s lives - and they would be lost without you. You are the giver of endless hugs and unconditional love, provider of warmth and food and safety, a shelter from the overwhelming chaos as they learn to navigate life. But when they look back on photos of their childhood - will they see you in it?

That’s the core of why I run these sessions every year - because you need to be in the photos with your kids.

It’s not only important from a documentary perspective, it also helps build kids self-esteem. They are little sponges, and they learn from watching you. And watching you be yourself and having fun and not seeming to worry about your appearance (at least to them) can do more for building their self-esteem than a hundred pep talks ever could.

So if you’ve been thinking about coming along, I would love to celebrate you and your motherhood journey with you!
