The Saker Family

Altona Family Photographer

As a photographer, there are many things that can go wrong during a session. The weather, the children and even the parents can change your plans - but if I’m being honest it’s more often than not the kids who throw the best plans into absolute chaos.

It can be incredibly challenging to deal with kids who are just having a bad day as a photographer, because you don't want to interfere too much with your subjects' lives or make them feel uncomfortable. But if your subject is feeling stressed out and unhappy, this will come across in their photos and my personal belief is that it's far more important that my clients are happy, rather than just pushing through for the sake of it.

Over the years I’ve collected a lot of tips and tricks for working with kids, and I’m pretty confident in my ability to win over even the grumpiest of children.

But this little Miss got the better of me, I’ll admit it. It wasn’t her fault - the weather ended up surprising us and being truly awful that day, and Isla just wasn’t having a bar of it. I was so distressed at how their first family session turned out that for the first time I offered to do a re-shoot - and I’m so glad we did!

The photos below are from our second session - plenty of smiles (and snacks) this time around ♥
