Meet our new puppy - Ollie!

We all need some good news right now, so here's a cute lil story for you all about how Ollie came to join our family.

For the last few months Dan and I had been (very quietly) thinking about adding another doggo to our family, because our older dog Oscar needed a sibling. Oscar is very much a 'pack dog' and loves hanging out with other dogs, but since we moved out to the burbs, and away from our amazing dog park, I've noticed that Oscar was getting a bit lonely as we don't see as many dogs as we used to.

But I was adamant! We were getting a girl dog! There are way too many boys in this house already (one husband, one dog and one cat) and I wanted some girl power.

A few weeks ago we decided to go for it, and you betcha I went looking for girl puppies, just to see what was available.

Nek minit, we’re driving two hours east of Melbourne to meet a breeder who had the cuuuutest girl puppy 😍.

When we entered the little meet and greet room, we saw that the breeder had popped the girl in with one of her brothers to keep her company.

Plot twist!

We left with the boy puppy 🤣.

The girl puppy couldn't have cared less that we were there. Ollie on the other hand? He walked up to me the second I sat down, sat in front of me and put his lil paw on my arm and just looked into my eyes 😳😍 yes, it was the cutest thing ever, and I melted all over the floor.

But we still sat there for two hours trying to convince ourselves to go home with the girl 😂.

I just couldn't do it though. Ollie perked up at the sound of my voice, followed me around everywhere, snuggled into our necks when we picked him up. He was utterly adorable; how do you say no to a puppy that chooses you like that?!

Sooo I'm still in a house of boys, but I'm not even sad about it because Ollie is the goodest boi and I can't really imagine life without him now. Also, it's a lot easier to say "my boys" instead of "my boys and my girl" lol.

This is him, at 12 weeks old ♥.

It’s been a few weeks now since Ollie came home, and our other fur babies are coming around to the idea of having another sibling much quicker than I thought they would. It’s been an adjustment for all of us, and pretty stressful at times to have a crazy energetic puppy, an older dog (and cat) who are mad at you for disrupting their whole peaceful life, and deal with the bullshit that is COVID-19.

But Ollie is chill, our little snuggle bug. We call him our Noodle, because he’s like a wet noodle, slipping and sliding everywhere (especially when on the couch).

He is soooo excited to see us in the mornings, and he is obsessed with food which is the most joyous thing for me after dealing with an anxious an incredibly fussy eater in Oscar for the last seven years. His favourite place to nap is either on my feet, on Oscar (much to his dismay), or as close to my neck as he can imagine (that hasn’t changed a bit). He’s pretty smart, and it’s been so cool watching him learn from Oscar! He’s an awesome night-sleeper, the first few nights were rough but now he sleeps straight through for about 6-7 hours (again a massive change from Oscar who is the worst sleeper at night). Also a bit lazy, he doesn’t understand why he has to go alllllll the way outside to pee. Loves other doggos! He’s pretty great to snuggle, it’s like holding a warm, floppy teddy bear. Only when he’s sleepy though, if he’s awake it’s like holding a live wire.

Here’s some of my favourite photos from the last few weeks ♥

Ollie is a Spoodle / Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel x Mini Poodle) and we got him from the lovely team at Prestige Puppies.
