Every year, these sessions stop me in my tracks, and it's not because of the photos themselves (although yes, they are beautiful).

It's because of what happens during the sessions.

So many mums arrive feeling nervous, worried they aren't ready, worried they don't look like themselves right now, worried they should wait until they feel better or lose the weight or get more sleep or whatever the thing is that week. And almost without fail, something shifts during each and every session.

Sometimes it's as simple as me showing you a photo on the back of the camera and watching your face change when you realise I've actually captured something beautiful. Sometimes it's the moment your kid wraps their arms around your neck and presses their cheek into yours, and you remember that the whole point is just to love them and be loved.

Either way, most of my clients walk away realising that none of the stuff they were worried about matters anymore.

These sessions were never really about documenting how you looked on one particular day. It’s about capturing what this season of life feels like, what your kids felt when they were held by you, what safety looked like to them, what it feels like to be loved by you.

Because one day, sooner than you think, these photos won't just be something nice to have on your wall. One day you'll look at these photos and be taken straight back to this time, to the sound of their laugh, the way they felt in your arms, all the little details that feel so permanent right now but will quietly slip away faster than you think. They'll be what your kids look at one day in the future, when they're remembering their childhood, or maybe when they’ve had their own kids, and suddenly understand for the first time just how much you loved them.
